Background: Medication errors due to inappropriate doses are common in hospitalized patients especially in those patients where a dose adjustment is needed because of altered pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.
Aims & Objective: The study was conducted to estimate the medication errors because of inappropriate dosing of antimicrobial agents in renal impairment patients.
Design & Setting: The present study was conducted for a period of three months in the medical wards of tertiary care centre in India. The age, sex, clinical diagnosis, duration of hospitalization, parenteral antibacterial agent information (name, dose, route of administration and frequency) and serum creatinine values of those patients admitted during the study period were recorded.
Material and Method: The prescriptions of only those patients who had renal impairment were checked for any errors because of inappropriate dosing of antimicrobial agents. The definition of "Renal impairment" for the purpose of drug dose adjustment and cautions was obtained from the British National Formulary. The MDRD formula was used in our study to obtain the values of estimated glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is as follows- GFR = 186.3 x (S. Creatinine) -1.154 x (age in years) - 0.203 x 1.212 x 0.742 (if female).
Results: Three hundred and ninety patients were prescribed anti-microbial agents during the three month study period in the medical wards. 182 patients were prescribed a single antibiotic, while 122 patients were prescribed two anti-microbial agents. 70 patients were prescribed 3 anti-microbial agents, while 4 anti-microbial agents were prescribed to 16 patients. The median duration of hospitalization was 5 days. The most common type of infection for which an antibiotic was prescribed was respiratory infections 44.87 % (175), followed by urinary tract infections (UTI) (56, 14.3 %) and abdominal infections (34, 8.72 %). Out of 390 patients, 78 patients had renal impairment (34 had mild renal impairment, 28 had moderate, and 16 patients had severe renal impairment). These patients were prescribed 2137 unit doses of antimicrobial agents (1119 in mild; 753 in moderate; and 265 in severe renal impairment). Inappropriate dosing errors were found in 183 unit doses of AMA (8.56%). Out of this, 78 (42.62%) errors occurred in mild, 91 (49.73%) in moderate and 14 (7.65%) in severe renal impairment patients. In all 183 dosing errors appropriate doses were suggested to the doctor in charge. About 83.6 % (153) of the recommendations were accepted and 16.39% (30) recommendations were not accepted by the physicians.

Shelf life is a guide for the consumer of the period of time that food can be kept before it starts to deteriorate, provided any stated storage condition have been followed. The shelf of a product begins from the time the food is prepared or manufactured. As all foods spoil with time, but there is considerable variation in spoilage rates. Each product will have its own set of factors that may limit its shelf life. It also considers the purchase of ingredients and packaging materials right through to the end use by the consumer.Keywords

Hospitality industry is one of the most dynamic industries in India. It has shown its effect in country's GDP and in employment generation too. According to India Tourism statistic there is 5.9 % annual growth rate for foreign tourist's arrival and 11.4 % for domestic tourists in 2013. The hospitality industry is the 3rd largest foreign exchange earner accounting for 6.23 % of India GDP and 8.78 % of India total employment according to planning commission of India. When Hospitality industry is showing consistent growth, it also requires trained manpower to meet the demand. To full fill this demand many new institutions are coming up with hospitality courses in their profile. National council for hotel management and catering technology, the pioneer in hospitality educations in India has also increased its intake by opening of new IHMs and increasing student's intake in its current institutes. Many universities have introduced hospitality and tourism in their course content as a separate discipline. Not only this, many private institutes are also offering their diploma/undergraduate courses in hospitality field. This growth in number of students choosing hospitality as a field to study shows the changes in common people's perception towards hospitality education. Therefore a study is conducted to understand the perception of the hospitality graduates towards hospitality industry. The present study underlines the factors that influence the mindset of the youth and shape their perception in opting for hospitality programmes as their career choice. A structured questionnaire is developed on the basis of review of literature taking 21 variables. Around 325 hospitality graduates from various Institutes of Hotel Management (IHM), Private Hotel Management Institutes (HMI) and University Teaching Department participated in the study. Factor Analysis with varimax rotation is applied. As a result five factors are extracted that are found to have influence on the perception of hospitality graduates towards hospitality Industry.Keywords

We have discussed a few transformations which connect solutions of the isothermal equation (analogue of the Lane-Emden equation (LEE)) for plane-symmetric configuration in (μρ; νρ); (μp; νp); (μψ; νψ) planes and (yρ; zρ); (yp; zp); (yψ; zψ) planes. Approximate analytical solutions for (μψ; νψ) planes are tabulated following the technique of Pade′ approximants. Physical aspects of the problem and interpretations of the results have also been included.Keywords

The research study titled "A correlative study to assess the self esteem and psychological well being among adult children of mentally ill parents in Kasturba hospital, Manipal of Udupi district", whose objectives were to (a) assess the level of self esteem of adult children of their mentally ill parents as measured by Rosenberg's self esteem scale. (b) assess the psychological well being by the adult children of mentally ill parents by psychological well being tool of Jaiprakash and Bhogle (c) find the relationship between self esteem and psychological well being of adult children of mentally ill parents.
A survey approach using a descriptive correlational study design was used for the study. A total of 63 samples who were adult children of parents who had been diagnosed as having schizophrenia, mood disorder or organic mental disorder for more than 6 months, attending the psychiatric OPD and ward of Kasturba Hospital in Manipal.
The findings of the study supports that there is no significant relationship between self esteem and psychological well being among the adult children of mentally ill parents.

The present investigation was planned with an objective to screen phytochemically andneuropharmacologically the ischolar_mains of Carissa carandus Linn.in rats. Carissa carandus Linn.(karaunda), common herb of dogbane family Apocynaceae. It has been used as additive in Indian pickles1. The extraction of Carissa carandus Linn. ischolar_mains was carried out by Soxhlet apparatus by successive solvent extraction in the order of increasing polarity with solvents such as hexane, methanol and water respectively for 24 hours. Phytochemical screening of the extracts reveals the presence of following chemical constituents such as carbohydrates, proteins, lignans, flavonoids, terpenes, saponins glycosides, cardiac glycosides etc. Nootropic activity was carried out with methanolic extract (200 mg/kg) in albino rats by using object recognition test. The rats of all the groups are placed one by one in an empty object recognition test chamber to get habituated to the environment for a period of 5 minutes before the test session. The rats were allowed to explore a familiar object (F) and a new object (F1) on first day test trail for a period of 5 minutes. Second day test trial includes exploration of a previous familiar (F) object and a new object (N). The result obtained indicate that discrimination index with control rats were found to be 0.0470±0.113 sec, whereas with test treated rats discrimination index was found to be 0.2042 ±0.412 sec. This increase in discrimination index with Carissa carandus Linn. methanolic ischolar_main extract treated rats in object recognition test suggests that Carissa carandus Linn. ischolar_mains posseses significant memory enhancing potential.Keywords
